About Us

First: why ‘RIP’ Marine? RIP stands for Retirement In Progress. Why retirement in progress? That requires a bit of history…

It all started in the 1970s with Warner Boat Sales, the original brick-and-mortar boat stores in Southern California. Tom and Eleanor owned Warner Boat Sales ‘South’ in Costa Mesa. Tom’s twin brother, Jerry, owned Warner Boat Sales in Marina del Rey. Tom and Eleanor continued to operate Warner Boat Sales South for 39 years. When they sold the business in 2016, RIP Marine was born.

eCommerce Store
RIP Marine began in 2016 as an e-commerce site to allow Tom and Eleanor to sell leftover dealer stock of new and used marine parts. It continues today, mostly as a hobby while Tom and Eleanor transition into full retirement… someday.

RIP Marine Decontamination Services
In 2025, Tom and Eleanor‘s children, Darin and Ginger, along with Ginger‘s husband Steve, opened RIP Marine Decontamination Services. Darin and Ginger, having grown up working side-by-side with their parents, and Steve, a lifelong boater and fisherman, were excited to return to the boating community. If you’ve spent any time boating, you can relate to what they missed; the boating community is like no other.

Today, RIP Marine Decontamination Services is an approved 3rd party mussel decontamination service vendor for California Department of Fish and Wildlife and a certified mussel decontamination service provider for California State Parks, Gold Fields District (Folsom and Clementine Lakes).

RIP Marine continues to live up to its name as Darin, Steve and Ginger begin the slow transition from their respective businesses into ‘retirement’ where they will continue to operate the decontamination services side of RIP. For now, Darin continues to operate his IT consultancy, Steve continues to operate his electrical contracting business, and Ginger continues to operate her ergonomics consultancy, each with the hope of fully transitioning into RIP (‘retirement’ Tom and Eleanor style) in the next 10 years or so.

Suffice it to say, RIP Marine is a family operation; when you call, someone from the family will answer.
